A short bio...

I am a theoretical physicist by training. During the last couple of years I have also studied Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I work as a career advisor at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) and as a psychotherapist in private practice

My research field was noncommutative quantum field theory and emergent gravity. I studied at the University of Vienna, the University of Wales, Swansea, and the University of Hamburg, as well at the Deutsches Elektronensynchrotron (DESY).

During my PhD it became pretty clear to me that a scientific career was perhaps not the right thing, but what seemed really interesting were jobs in the higher education sector that allowed for a broader view on academia.

At ISTA I have screened more than one thousand applications for faculty positions and participated in dozens of committee meetings. At some point I thought: Someone should teach this! Since 2014 I have given talks and workshops on the academic recruiting process: How does it work, what are the criteria and pitfalls?

Before joining ISTA I was head of the Office of the Chemistry, Physics & Technology Section of the Max Planck Society's Scientific Council where I supported strategy discussions of the CPT Section and appointment procedures for Max Planck director positions.
